Good Morning... a cool morning...it's Wednesday November 4, 2009

Thanks to all who noticed that I had the wrong date on our Tuesday headline.  I'm just not ready for November yet.

More leaf collection at the Popovich household Tuesday. It will be great to get back to work today. I need a break

THE MOST FAMOUS BROKEN ARM IN CINCINNATI
UC quarterback Tony Pike had x-rays on Tuesday and the results were encouraging, but that doesn't mean that Pike will start against Connecticut on Saturday.  He's getting a new brace and is expected to practice later today.  That might help matters.  According to Coach Brian Kelly Tuesday, "he can't go with the cast that he has on right now."

THE MOST FAMOUS BUM KNEE IN COLUMBUS
Kicker Aaron Pettrey of Ohio State is done for the season. He tore his medial collateral ligament in his right knee while running down the field on Saturday.  He had surgery on Tuesday. 26-year old Devan Barclay stepped in last week, but reports say Ben Buchanan out of Westerville might be his replacement against Penn State this week.

FALCONS CREST
Bowling Green scored on a touchdown pass with :39 left in the fourth quarter Tuesday night to beat Buffalo 30-29.  Tyler Sheehan, a product of LaSalle High School, ran for one touchown in the fourth quarter, and then threw the winning pass to Freddie Barnes.

SATURDAY'S COLLEGE LINEUP ON CHANNEL NINE
3:30  Ohio State at Penn State
7:00  "Bearcat Fever-Climb to the Top"  A Channel 9 Sports Special
8:00  Connecticut at Cincinnati

WOUNDED WOLVERINE
Green Bay Packer Charles Woodson went back to Ann Arbor on Tuesday and admitted that "it's hard to watch Michigan" play football this season.  The Wolverines have lost four straight games in the Big Ten.  Woodson, the former Heisman Trophy winner says he's "getting flak" from a teammate and a  former UC Bearcat, to which he said "Can you believe that?"  That teammate has to be Brandon Underwood, who's from Hamilton.

SETTING THE STANDARD
Singer Michael Buble just did the Top Ten List on Letterman and it was one of the most clever ever.  The topic was "Top Ten Least Popular Music Standards. They added new words to familiar tunes and Buble sang each one perfectly.  To the tune of "Quando, Quando, Quando" he sang..."Obama called you jackass, Kan-ye, Kan-ye, Kan-ye, Kan-ye."  I don't do it justice but it was very good.

FEATURED BENGAL
Damon Hack has a nice piece in this week's Sports Illustrated on the Bengals Cedric Benson.  The story is about players who have been given second chances, but 80-percent of the article is about the Bengals running back.  "He has an O-lineman's fight" says guard Bobbie Williams

STRONGER THAN DIRT
SI also has a poll of NFL players on the dirtiest players in the league.  The Steelers Hines Ward leads the list, followed by the Redskins Albert Haynesworth, the Dolphins Joey Porter and the Bengals Roy Williams.  Are these guys dirty or just tough? I'd love to have any of those guys on my team.

CHANGING THE LINE
Scott Kooistra who has made a career out of being an offensive line backup, was waived Tuesday by the Bengals. He was a seventh round pick back in 2003. The Bengals signed Gerald Cadogen to the practice squad.  He played at Penn State.

BROWNOUT IN CLEVELAND
One day after he fired General Manager George Kokinis, Browns owner Randy Learner had a two hour meeting with two fans.  The fans said Lerner was very receptive to their complaints.  They still plan to stage a "brownout" on Monday night football where many fans will be missing at the opening kickoff to protest the pitiful state of the team.

ROCKIN' ROLLINS
Xavier beat Rollins College in an exhibition game Tuesday night 86-47. Jordon Crawford had 16 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Muskies.   XU plays NKU on Saturday night at the Cintas Center

THE EXHIBITION SEASON
Louisville, Ohio State and Indiana all have exhibition games tonight.

WORLD SERIOUS
Game Six of the World Series will be played tonight at Yankee Stadium.  It's Pedro Martinez against Andy Petitte as the Yankees try to win their 27th title.

GETTING PICKED
-Former Detroit Pistons guard Dave Bing has been re-elected Mayor of Detroit
-Former Dallas Cowboys star has been voted off "Dancing with the Stars"

SHAQ ATTACK
Shaquille O'Neal had his best game as a Cleveland Cavalier last night in the Cavs 102-90 win over the Wizards.  He scored 21..Lebron had 27.

BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO...AND EXPENSIVE
CBS Sportscaster Jim Nantz has to pay $916,000 annually in alimony and child support under a divorce settlement reached on Tuesday.

-November 4, 1959, Ernie Banks became the first player to win back-to-back Most Valuable Player Awards in the National League.
