This Thanksgiving some local police officers and fire fighters are taking on a different role. They're handling the cooking for the family of the local police officer who was critically injured in a crash this week.
Fairfield Fire Fighters picked up food from a local caterer. They put the finishing touches on the meal and took it down to University Hospital for the family of Officer Nicholas Gattermeyer. Gattermeyer's stepbrother is a Lieutenant at the Fairfield Fire Department.
Gattermeyer is on his third day in critical condition. He was responding to a burglary Tuesday when he lost control of his cruiser and crashed into a tree.
This is the family's second Thanksgiving meal of the day.
West Chester police officers ordered lunch for the family from Perkins on Tylersville Road.
Unexpectedly, the restaurant picked up the tab. People who run the Perkins tell 9 News the West Chester Police protect the restaurant. It's their turn to return the favor and provide the meals.
