A suspect involved in a police pursuit that injured an officer overnight says he ran because he "thought it would be fun." And now, he has once again escaped from custody.
Police say 28-year-old Dustin Carr of Sycamore Township gave this reason for fleeing when they arrested him after a short chase that ended around 1:30 Monday morning.
The incident began when Deer Park Officer Doug Boland, 30, pulled Carr's vehicle over for suspicion of drunk driving. As Officer Boland was conducting field sobriety test at
Clifford Road and Parrot Lane, Carr allegedly took off running.
Officer Boland chased after him for a short time and tackled him to the ground. During the scuffle, both men received minor injuries. Officer Boland injured his knee and Carr reportedly hit his head and injured his eye.
Both men were taken to the hospital for treatment. Officer Boland was treated and released. Officials say he will now take two days off work to recover.
Police planned to take Carr straight to jail after he was treated; however, when officers returned to pick him up, they discovered he somehow managed to sneak out of the hospital. Police are still searching for Carr, who is reportedly on the run barefoot.
After the original chase, Carr was charged with OVI, resisting arrest and fleeing. He will likely now face additional charges when he is caught.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Dustin Carr is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (513)352-3040 or text tips to (513)352-3050.
