RISING SUN, Ind. - A six hour police standoff near an Indiana fairground ended early Monday morning with two shots fired and a suspect under arrest.
According to police, the incident started around 6:45 Sunday night when a sheriff's deputy was called to investigate a reported domestic dispute at the Fairgrounds Trailer Court in Rising Sun, Indiana.
Ohio County Sheriff's Deputy Adam Ziegler was the responding officer. He was reportedly talking to a family member when 60-year-old James Farrell of Rising Sun pointed a handgun at him.
While Farrell allegedly barricaded himself in a nearby trailer, Deputy Ziegler called for back-up. The Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team (ERT) arrived to help police coax Farrell into surrendering.
After about six hours on the scene, crews deployed gas into Farrell's trailer to try to force him out. That is when police say he fired two shots at ERT members from the trailer's bathroom window.
No one was injured and ERT members reportedly did not fire back at Farrell.
A short time later, police say Farrell came out of the trailer and surrendered. It is not yet clear what charges he will face and the incident remains under investigation.
