Leroy Tunstall bought his Covington home in August. Since then he has put in countless hours restoring it back to what he feels it should be.
"It was a total wreck. Dropped ceilings, carpet, the bathroom was completely destroyed," Tunstall said.
While the inside of Tunstall's home on Holman Avenue is being restored, the same isn't true for many houses on and around his street that are falling apart.
But Kentucky is receiving more than $37 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
More than $7 million of that is expected to go to Newport, Ludlow, and Covington.
The money will be used in many ways including everything from fixing up foreclosed houses, to tearing down vacant houses, making room for new single-family homes.
While Tunstall received no money to fix up his home, he's still thrilled about his neighborhoods potential.
"I love it. I mean, it needs to be. This is a beautiful neighborhood. I mean it really is," Tunstall said.
