A soldier from Pierce Township lost his life in Afghanistan Wednesday when his convoy was ambushed by insurgents, according to his family.
The remains of 36-year-old Greg Missman are expected to be flown to Dover, Delaware by Friday. Missman's father and mother will both be in attendance, 9News has learned.
Missman's family says he was an Army Specialist, and they were notified Wednesday night of his death. They say he was killed at 4 PM, but they are unclear whether that was local time. A family spokesperson says they have not learned where Missman's unit was attacked.
This was Missman's first tour of duty. He was deployed in early June.
Missman was a graduate of Amelia High School.
