A crowd of hopefuls gathered for the Opera Idol competition at Music Hall Saturday.

The singers are competing for a $3,500 contract with the Cincinnati Opera, and they had just three minutes to impress the judges.

One of the singers was Drew DePenning of Blue Ash. He is a worship leader at Montgomery Community Church.

"I've been really looking for the chance to perform, and do something different. Singing professional Christian music is one thing, but singing opera at such a high level is something I've been drawn to and decided I had to do it," Drew says.

There will be another round for the finalists in the coming weeks.
