An 82-year-old man is facing assault charges after punching another senior citizen over what police say began as a road rage incident.

The alleged assault took place at the Wal-Mart on U.S. 27 in Alexandria.

67-year-old Charlie Bruener and his wife Donna of Foster are still in disbelief over what happened to them on Tuesday.

Their ordeal began several miles up the road while they were turning out of a hardware store on US 27.

"Out of the corner of my eye I caught something moving and I look and here comes this van and I put on the brakes and he just cut us right off. He almost hit us!" said Charlie Bruener, Sr.

Bruener says 82 year old Beecher Davis began following them as they headed down US 27.

Donna Bruener, who is on oxygen, says she became so concerned she called 911.

"She said where is he at? I said in front of us. She said pull over and park until the cops get there," said Donna Bruener, Charlie's Wife.

When they pulled into the Walmart parking lot, Bruener says Davis approached their car.

"I said get away from here you s.o.b. like that and when I did that he punched me in the jaw," said Bruener.

The 67-year-old says that's when he reached for his Derringer pistol which he has a concealed carry permit but Davis he says was unphased.

"He told me to shoot him! He pointed it right at his chest and he said shoot me! I said mister I will shoot you if you don't get away from me." said Bruener. "I said get away from me you s.o.b nut you know like that and then I get hit again in the chin! He hit me again in the chin."

Police arrived and booked Davis into the Campbell County jail on an assault charge. He was later released on bond.

According to the police report, officers asked Davis why instead of calling police he approached Bruener's car. Davis told officers  he doesn't take being called a s.o.b off of anybody.

Davis later told the officer, "If you call me a s.o.b., I'll slug you, too."
