Chrysler's decision to close nearly 800 dealerships affects seven dealerships in the Tri-State.
The company is cutting ties with the following local dealerships: Kerry Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Milford; Zimmer Motors in Florence; Joe Kidd Dodge in Amelia; Hamilton Fairfield Dodge in Hamilton; Wullenweber Motors in Green Township; CincyAutos in Oxford; and New Richmond Auto Sales in New Richmond.
In all, the company wants to see 789 dealerships, roughly a quarter of Chrysler's dealers nationwide, close by June 9.
The automaker says many of the dealers' sales numbers are too low and too many of its stores are competing with each other.
Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown says he doesn't understand the company's decision.
"I think that Chrysler making this decision unilaterally is costing far too many jobs – mechanics, sales people, clerks and others at these dealerships – and it's an economic hit we can't afford to take,” said Senator Sherrod Brown, (D) Ohio.
A federal bankruptcy judge in New York has scheduled a hearing for June 3 to determine the outcome of Chrysler's motion.
Dealers targeted for closure can appeal.
