Even though sales are expected to be down, there are more part-time seasonal jobs available this year.

Last year, the seasonal job market was baron at best, because of the implosion of the stock market, banks. That led many companies to play it safe and not hire temporary seasonal positions.

This year seems to be looking better, according to Chuck Walters with Super Jobs. "It's not as good as we want but it's not as bad as last year," Walters said. "There's a little bit more confidence right now that things have bottomed out and we've maybe seen the worst of it.  So there are positions out there for seasonal employees."

Walters pointed out that retailers, like Kohl's, Macy's, and Target are starting to build their holiday workforce.  So now is the time to place applications.

"We start our seasonal hiring in October," explained Florence Target Store Manager Michael West. "We are hiring store wide for various positions. From sales floor, cashiers, back room team members."

Target has two ways to apply, either online or in person at a kiosk in the customer service center. He mentioned that Target also makes it a point to look for permanent employees from seasonal workers.

"If they apply here in the store, that application will get prompted right at the customer service desk.  One of the team members will alert a member of management and we will do some on the spot interviews," said West.

The point West and Walters makes is this; if you want or need a seasonal job this fall, go and apply now.
