VEVAY, Ind. -- Several Switzerland County students went to the hospital instead of class Tuesday morning after their school bus crashed in Vevay, Indiana.

Police say the bus and a pickup truck collided at around 7:45 a.m. on State Road 156 and Tapps Ridge Road.

The crash caused the bus to go off the side of the road, but it remained upright.

There were 36 students from Switzerland County High and Middle Schools on the bus at the time. Crews transported six of those students to area hospitals with minor injuries.  Officials say they mostly suffered scrapes and bruises.

The pickup driver was trapped in his vehicle for a short time after the crash.  Rescuers quickly freed him and transported him to University Hospital.  His name and condition have not been released.

The crash remains under investigation.
