Republican Rob Portman is now officially a candidate for the United States Senate in 2010.
The Terrace Park resident made the announcement Wednesday morning surrounded by his family members at the Golden Lamb in Lebanon.
"I'm a principled, committed fiscal conservative," Portman said in entering the race. "I believe in family, faith and friends plus bringing people together."
Portman will seek the seat of George Voinovich, who announced Monday he will not seek a third term. He praised Voinovich's 44 years of service to Ohio and acknowledged the challenges that will face him if elected.
"We must break through the partisan gridlock in Washington because of the challenging times we face," Portman added, specifically referring to the U.S. economy.
