Last Update: 12/15/2008 10:47 am

Police believe a person may have intentionally jumped into the Ohio River Monday morning while trying to steal scrap metal.

Cincinnati Police and Fire officials responded to the 4000 block of River Road just after 7 a.m. after receiving a call that someone was in the water.

A security guard at the Valvoline plant in Riverside reportedly called police after seeing a man jump off a work boat and into the river.

According to officials, the man swam down river to shore and ran into the woods.

Police believe the man may have been trespassing or trying to steal scrap metal from the plant, which is a division of Ashland Oil Inc.

The man has not been caught.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (513)352-3040 or text tips to (513)352-3050.
