CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- A 33-year-old man was fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire that followed a high-speed chase.

Ryan Pruitt of Connersville was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting in eastern Henry County.

Indiana State Police say a trooper tried to stop Pruitt's vehicle for a traffic violation around 9:50 p.m. Friday near Connersville in Fayette County. They say he refused to stop and was pursued for around 30 minutes until he stopped in the median of U.S. 40.

Pruitt allegedly drew a handgun and began firing at police, who fired back and fatally wounded him.

Two state troopers were involved in the pursuit and shooting, along with Henry County sheriff's deputies and Cambridge City police.
