COVINGTON, Ky. -- Covington police say a would-be robber tried a very personal way of distracting a woman in order to get his hands on her wallet.

According to police, a man and woman were standing on the corner of Pike and Main streets around 2:30 a.m. Thursday when a man approached them.

The suspect allegedly hugged the woman, while at the same time reaching into her purse and removing her wallet.

Police say the man accompanying the victim noticed the robbery attempt and knocked the wallet from the hugger's hand. The would-be robber then fled empty-handed.

Officers used police dogs to search the area, but could not locate the suspect.
