Police say there were several shots fired before a wounded man drove to a nearby restaurant for help.

Police say they received a call around 5:30 p.m. Friday evening saying a man that had been shot was sitting in his car outside of a Manchester restaurant in Adams County.

When they arrived police say they found the man in his car, shot several times in his back and torso.

Others 9-1-1 calls led police less than a mile away to a home in the 400 block of West 6th Street in Manchester, Ohio where investigators say the shooting happened.

Chief Randy Walters of the Manchester Police Department said, "Coming up here, found that there was a crime scene, and that there had been some type of altercation, and this appears to be where the incident took place."

There were several broken windows in the front of the home as investigators continued to try a piece together what happened.

Chief Walters says it's unclear if the victim, now identified as Kelly Mason, was shot inside or outside the vehicle.

Mason was been transported to the Adams County Regional Hospital. He was then transported by a medical helicopter to University Hospital in Cincinnati for treatment. Mason's current condition is unknown.

Investigators are calling the former Mayor of Manchester, Randy Yates, the suspect. Yates lives where the shooting happened.

"It's not for sure what their relationship is or if there is any family relation. We're very much in the beginning of the investigation at this time," said Walters.

Investigators are saying they are questioning Yates while Mason recovers at University Hospital.

Yates last year as the mayor of Manchester, Ohio was 1997.
