FALMOUTH, Ky. -- Investigators say just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Pendleton County school bus collided with a large pick-up truck pulling a trailer carrying aluminum.
Police say they quickly contacted parents and emergency crews.
"All the students have been accounted for. They've all been either returned to their parents or transported to the hospital," said Pendleton County Sheriff Craig Peoples.
School officials say one elementary school student, one middle school student and 27 high school students were on the bus.
Ten were taken to local hospitals with what police are calling non-life-threatening injuries.
One of those injured is Margaret Demoss' little brother.
"When the bus got hit, he hurt his neck and he blacked out. And when he woke back up, he still couldn't see anything," Demoss said.
Police say the driver of the pickup truck was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following school protocol, the bus driver is being tested for drugs and alcohol. However, school officials and police say there's no reason to think either were involved.
"The person is a ‘sub-driver,’ but has been an employee of the school district for several years," said Pendleton Schools Superintendent Bob Yost.
Police say they're still investigating what caused the accident.
