Police all over the Tri-State are out in force this holiday weekend – looking for drunk drivers.

"We have essentially doubled our manpower due to some overtime postings and overlapping shifts," explained Sergeant. Clint Arnold of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Arnold and his troopers are using what they call “Saturation Patrols.”

They are targeting areas that they believe have a higher probability of yielding drunk drivers.

"Obviously, with this much volume of traffic you are going to have traffic crashes where fatalities occur,” said Sgt. Arnold.

“What we're really striving for is to eliminate the ones that have alcohol involvement or a lack of seatbelts," continued Arnold.

Additionally, Arnold explains that one of the most important weapons against drunk driving is the cell phone.

He says a majority of the O.V.I. arrests his troopers make during the day come from a 911 call made by another driver.

He says while the message is the same every year – wear your seatbelt and don't drink and drive – he hopes more people will listen to it.

"We want you to enjoy your weekend, but make the simple choice and have someone drive you home," said Arnold.
