The Cincinnati Parks department needs help accomplishing large tasks.

Because of the reallocation of resources (people, money, and equipment, for example) getting prepared for summer can be difficult.

At Krohn Conservatory in Eden Park there are 4,000 - 5,000 plants to get in the dirt and over 300 cubic yards of mulch to spread at Ault Park.

That is why Cincinnati Christian University volunteers.

More than 300 students faculty and staff joined together across four parks Wednesday to spread, clear and plant for summer.

The university volunteered more than 40,000 hours of service work last year and expect Wednesdays to be right around 1,500 hours.

CCU student Trista Gabbard summed it up.

"Anytime you have the chance and go out and do something for others, I mean, then obviously you're gonna take the opportunity,” said Gabbard. “And I love doing stuff like this for other people and it kind of gets me away for doing stuff for myself."
