So what will happen if Kentucky Speedway lands a Sprint Cup Race? That's the topic of discussion in Northern Kentucky.
The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Eggs 'N Issues forum about Kentucky Speedway at 7:15 a.m. Thursday. It takes place at Receptions Conference Center in Erlanger (see map below).
With Nascar growing as the #1 spectator sport in the country, Kentucky Speedway is hoping to bring more revenue to Sparta by landing a Sprint Cup Race.
But what economic impact would it have on the race track?
It's reported that each Nascar race makes a regional impact of about $200-million.
Mark Simendinger, Speedway's vice president and general manager, will discuss the changes and future plans at Thursday's forum.
The issue at hand: The Speedway's former owners had filed an anti-trust lawsuit against Nascar related to getting a Sprint Cup Race.
So ironically, as long as that lawsuit is active, it's likely the new owners won't get the Sprint Cup... at least for now.
