DOVER, Del. -- President Obama made an early morning trip to witness the return of 18 Americans who died this week while serving our country, including a 1997 graduate of Loveland High School.

Mr. Obama arrived at the Dover Air Force Base around 12:30 a.m. this morning after flying from Washington.  The President met privately with the families of the fallen.

Among the 18 coffins was one carrying the remains of Marine Captain David "Seth" Mitchell.  He was a popular student who played football at Loveland.  He entered the service after attending Virginia Tech.

The visit by Obama comes as he weighs whether to send more troops into the Afghan war zone.

Just this year, the Pentagon lifted it's 18-year ban on media covering the return of US service members killed in action, only if family permission is provided.

Captain Mitchell's parents now live in North Carolina.  Arrangements on services and his burial are expected to be released today.
