55 saved lives..and energy.I guess the need of the speed demons are more important than peoples lives and energy conservation. Ohio's freeways are absolutely dangerous. I would be willing to bet most fatalities are caused by excessive speed by self important people who are too stupid to know when to slow down. Highway fatality statistics is one list my name will never be on. I have been taking the long way home for years now.

I would like to see penalties for slow pokes who actually CAUSE more accidents than they are actually involved in themselves. Write them a ticket for impeding traffic and tell'em to speed up! If they can't drive the speed limit, then revoke their licenses permanently.

Oh, and I also have to agree with a couple of previous posters. Don't break the law and you won't be giving any money to the big, bad government. I've always been amazed by people who throw a fit when they get a ticket for speeding or running a red light or not wearing their seat belt. Hey, if you break the law you have NO right to whine when you get caught. I've gotten one speeding ticket in my life, not that I haven't deserved more. I didn't argue about it because I WAS speeding. I don't see why people get so bent out of shape over such things. If you don't want to pay the fine then obey the laws. It's really very simple. If everyone did that then maybe the govt. would have to look at getting their money elsewhere, like cutting out all the perks for city and county councils and govt. officials, maybe.

breakingnews: I talk on my cell while driving but it doesn't cause me any more distraction than if I was talking to a person in the car with me. I agree we need laws dealing with distracted drives, but cell phones themselves aren't the problem. It's the people who can't seem to bring themselves to spend $10 on a cheap little hands free unit. That's what I started with, then graduated to something a little more expensive that used bluetooth and was wireless. Now I have a radio that syncs with my phone. It answers it automatically and hangs it up automatically. I never have to look at or touch the phone. I'd even go so far as to say it's less of a distraction than having a passenger I'm talking to is. Because when there's someone in the car with me and we're talking I have the urge to glance over at them during conversation. So, banning all cell phones is serious overkill. Make hands free mandatory. Then ban eating, putting on makeup, reading, etc. Anything that requires you to take your eyes off the road or occupies your hands. That's what distracts people. It would make things a lot simpler and safer for all of us.

Of course there are laws regarding leaving children in a hot car. What a dumb question.

"Pull over and bend over"

Well I can see most people did not even read the new law. And WCPO did not accurately state what the law is really about. According to the Ohio Department of public safety. “When approaching of an emergency vehicle displaying flashing lights an audible signal, the driver must immediately drive to a position parallel to the right edge or cub of the road or highway and stop. The information that WCPO states drivers would have to act to move over or slow down just like you would for police or fire is incorrect. I just want to let everyone know before they get that $300.00 ticket. And you are right Rooh2 where is the legislation for the morons who leave their children in the hot car. To me that would be more important. The goverment feels it is neccesary to tell us to turn our lights on and windshield wippers ,i guess they could careless about the kids.

Where's the legislation for consequences for the morons who leave their children to bake to their death in a hot car? Not even a fine for that but if you forget to get over for that tow truck you get hit for $300.
