On Monday, Northern Kentucky University is kicking off a campaign to encourage students to get fit and go green.
The six week campaign is called "The Big Climb," and it kicks off at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Oakley & Eva G. Farris Amphitheater.
Over the next six weeks, NKU students and faculty will compete as teams to meet fitness and green goals. They hope to encourage everyone on campus to make healthier choices, like taking stairs instead of elevators.
For every 12,000 flights of stairs climbed by program participants, a silk lilac tree will be planted on campus. Those trees will be planted on November 4.
NKU says if everyone used the stairs, it could save the university up to $1,700 a day.
