Sunny weather only complimented the celebration of Earth Day on Northern Kentucky University's campus Thursday.
More than 20 local environmental groups took part in the Earth Day celebration on the student union plaza in the afternoon.
The activities included food, raffles, and a little jazz music.
The NKU jazz quartet played for the crowd in support of a better environment.
"A major part of our group is to basically educate the campus and the community all things environmental,” said Crystal Courtney, a NKU student.
Also showing support was NKU’s mascot Victor E. Viking.
Later that evening NKU students tried to raise awareness on another topic: domestic violence and rape.
They gathered for the "Take Back The Night" event, hosted by the Women's and Gender Studies program.
It allowed students to share personal experiences to reach out to others.
Students observed a moment of silence to recognize those who cannot speak out about violence.
