COVINGTON, Ky. -- A Northern Kentucky mother has filed a civil rights lawsuit against the Grant County School District, its superintendent, and the Principal of Mason Cornith Elementary School on behalf of her three children.

The woman claims her children were harassed by teachers and students and were taunted with racial slurs from 2007-2009. She also claims Michael Hibbett, Superintendent of Grant County Schools, and Lisa Hollandsworth, Principal of Mason Cornith Elementary School, and the district did nothing to stop it.

The mother claims her children had their clothing ripped off, kicked, tripped, had their homework stolen, written on with marker, and attacked on the school bus. As a result, she says her children performed poorly in school.

The lawsuit also claims the students were punished for reporting the incidents by walking laps and that the children were told the harassment was their fault.

According to the lawsuit, the most recent incident happened on October 19.

The suit was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court.
