Students and staff at the University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music beamed with pride when Kirsten Haglund won the 2008 Miss America title.

Haglund is a member of the musical theater program at CCM.

The musical theater program at CCM is regarded as one of the best in the country with graduates going on to Broadway, film and television roles.

"She was the kind of student that we love to recruit – wonderful performer, lovely singer, beautiful dancer, strong actress. She had potential which is what we really look for," said Aubrey Berg, professor and chair of the Musical Theater department at CCM.

Haglund comes from a family of pageant winners.

Her professor tells 9Nes that both her mother and grandmother held pageant titles themselves.
