CINCINNATI -- A miscalculation by Cincinnati's top budget official is leaving city leaders scrambling to come up with a way to deal with a projected $20 million budget shortfall for this year.

And they are asking for your help in finding a solution.

While Hamilton County and other agencies were making some hard decisions to cut their budgets last year, Cincinnati Budget Director Joe Gray had reportedly projected a three percent, or $7 million increase for the city's general fund budget.

University of Cincinnati economists were reportedly paid $48,000 to help Gray formulate the budget for this year.

They projected the city's income tax collections would go up.

When that didn't happen after April's tax deadline, the city manager alerted city council about the problem.

Council member Laketa Cole chairs the finance committee. She says City Manager Milton Dohoney will present the key information at a meeting on Monday.

The City of Cincinnati is asking residents to attend Monday's budget hearing to offer their input.

The meeting starts at 1 p.m. at City Hall.
