CINCINNATI -- The man accused of killing a 93-year-old woman in Roselawn last month has been indicted by a grand jury.
James House III, of Golf Manor, was indicted on Monday for killing Ida Martin as she was walking outside of her Summit Road home on October 20. Martin was stabbed four times. She was transported to University Hospital where she later died.
House is being held on a $1 million bond. A judge has ordered him to undergo a mental evaluation.
House was reportedly released earlier this year, after spending 10 years in various mental facilities. In 1999, he was charged with two counts of attempted murder for stabbing two women in Roselawn in December of 1998. He was acquitted by reason of insanity. House was 17 years old at time, and the case was handled in juvenile court.
"Unfortunately, the problem is the shifting standards set by the courts for dealing with people mental difficulties. Now is the time to look at other state's models and consider changing the law to ensure that these types of offenders are held for the longest possible period of time. Other states have statutory provisions that permit a 'guilty but insane' finding ensure that these types of offenders remain off the streets," said Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters.
