CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Voters have elected Mayor Mark Mallory to a second term in office as Mayor of Cincinnati.

Mallory made his victory speech before supporters at the Millennium Hotel in Downtown Cincinnati just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Mallory, who is a Democrat, says economic development, public safety, and neighborhood revitalization will be his top priorities as he heads into his second term in office.

Mallory ran what many consider to be a low-key campaign against Republican challenger, Brad Wenstrup, who is a podiatrist at Wellington Orthopedic and an Iraq War veteran.

Mallory has touted his efforts to boost the city's economy by campaigning for several major conventions to come to the city.

The NAACP says Mallory was just one of the reason's the organization decided to hold it's 99th annual national convention in Downtown Cincinnati during the summer of 2008.

The 47-year-old mayor says he has kept his pledge to improve the city's image after the 2001 race riots.

Mallory says the city's crime rate has fallen since he took office nearly four years ago.

Mallory is the city's first directly elected African-American mayor.

He comes from a prominent local political family.

His father is former Ohio House Majority Leader, William L. Mallory, Sr.

Mallory has also served as an Ohio State Senator and State Representative.

He was elected to the Ohio House after his father retired in 1994.

Mallory's annual salary as Mayor of Cincinnati is $121,291.50.
