Motivated, determined.
Survivor.
19-year-old Scott Gilday is all of these, and more.
The West Chester teenager beat brain cancer at the age of three, and now is headed off to college.
His strength and courage haven't gone unnoticed.
Gilday is one of only 13 students from across the country awarded a scholarship from The National Children's Cancer Society.
It's awarded in cooperation with the Beyond the Cure College Scholarship Program for Childhood Cancer Survivors.
The scholarship is given to childhood cancer survivors who have demonstrated the ability to overcome the difficult challenges of cancer with, yes, motivation and determination.
Mark Stolze, president and CEO of N.C.C.S, says all the young cancer survivors awarded this scholarship stand out as vibrant examples of hope. He goes on to say the society feels it is their duty and privilege to assist these children as they pursue their dreams.
And Scott Gilday is doing just that.
He'll be a computer science major at Hanover College in Indiana this fall.
