Sgt. Christina E. Smith, of Mount Orab, Ohio died Tuesday after she was stabbed near her home in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Her husband, Sgt. Richard D. Smith told authorities someone jumped out from behind a bush and stabbed his wife while they were walking near their home.
The 29-year-old Sgt. was a graduate of Xavier University and a graduate of the Army's Warrior Leader Course.
Smith was a graphics illustrator in Company A, 5th Battalion, but had been assigned to the 4th Psychological Operations Group (Airborne).
Smith is survived by her husband and her parents, Katherine and Steven Loehrke, of Mount Orab.
Police have not made any arrests.
