Local School Teacher Under Investigation

A Ripley, Ohio school teacher is under investigation for allegedly having inappropriate contact with a student several years ago.

According to Ripley Union Lewis Huntington School District Superintendent Dr. C Stephen Oborn, the investigation has been going on since last Friday.

Dr. Oborn would not release the teacher's name or elaborate on the allegations, but he did say the man is no longer in the classroom at this time.

The teacher submitted their resignation on Thursday.

The school released the following statement Friday:

The Ripley Union Lewis Huntington School District reports that on March 13, 2009 a complaint of inappropriate communications between a RULH staff member and a RULH student was received, which was reported to have occurred in mid-2005.

The staff member was interviewed on Monday March 16, 2009 and immediately placed on Administrative leave pending the results of the Administrative internal investigation.

The Brown County Department of Job and Family Services was also notified on March 16, 2009.

The staff member submitted their resignation on Thursday March 19, 2009 and the Ohio Department of Education, Department of Professional Conduct was notified of that a report of the incident from the school district would be submitted upon the conclusion of the Administrative investigation.
