The Erlanger Police Department has equipped its officers with small video cameras designed to be worn on a neck tie or shirt pocket.
"The benefit of being recorded answers questions down the road if there's a question about a contact," said Lieutenant Mike Bianchi.
"A contact" is police jargon for any official interaction with the public.
"Very often it resolves complaints because it wasn't the way it was originally perceived or it helps us in quality control of how our officers are handling their jobs," continued Lt. Bianchi.
At roughly $75 each, Erlanger police purchased 50 individual cameras. The cost is equivalent to what it takes to purchase and install a cruiser camera.
"You want the truth to come out. It's really just that simple," explained Bianchi.
The cameras have been in-service for two weeks.
