This situation was much worse than the news showed. The lady that had these horses was an animal collector- she had many anumals on her property with no shelter, very little water, medical issues, and very thin. I wonder how these horses would have stood up to the ice storm this past winter with not even a tree to shield them. It is hard to tell by the pictures, but the foal is permanently damaged due to not having enough nutrients in the formative months because his mother was not being fed properly. He walks on his hind ankles- probably pretty painful. Also- I wonder if this person was prosecuted- hopefully she is not allowed to own animals anymore. Thank you to the volunteers that gave their time and money to care for these horses.

I hate to see animals abused and neglected. Horses are expensive to own and I am wondering if the owners of some of these abused horses could really even afford it in the first place? Anyhow, I have 2 house cats and a Cockatiel, and I would go hungry before I'd make them go without food. They did not choose to live with me, I chose THEM to live with me, therefore I am responsible for providing them with everything they need. If it ever got to the point where I could no longer take care of them, I would see to it that they either got good homes, or else went to our local animal shelter here in Highland County, where they could be adopted out. I hope it never omes to that point, I'm just saying that pet/livestock owners need to realize that animals are totally dependent upon us to provide their basic needs. One of our cats was in the hospital 3 years ago and I didn't think twice about the money. It was $110.00 for his care. So I had to sacrifice for a little while, big deal! He needed Veterinary care and I am responsible for providing that. There are alot of people who do not deserve to own any animals. I am not a PETA member or an activist or anything like that, I just simply believe that owning animals is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Don't own them if you can't take care of them. It's that simple. Oh, um...I gotta go now. The cats are "meowing" for their 10:00 pm snack. LOL!!!

Your right...PETA pushed to pass the law that horses can't be slaughtered in the US...so then they were shipped to Me-key-ko and inhumanely handled. Way to go PETA. Now we have horses starving to death. Sometimes you have to have a little forethought...
