When will people realize - you can't mix crap with food. It just isn't healthy. I know that per pound - crap is cheaper, but don't load the meat with it just to save a buck!

there ought to be a public education effort to make the public aware of sanitation and food safety. these companies that announce recalls are doing it in the interest of public health. for the most part, food that is sold in most supermarkets is safe and wholesome. public awareness of the possibility of contamination in beef that is in question, doesn't mean that all beef is contaminated. if a person ate some beef that falls under the guidelines announced by the authorities, and that person didnt get sick, then , no worries. most biological contaminants can be erradicated by proper cooking. the spread of such contaminents can be controlled by proper sanitation habits and procedures. just because a biological contaminent exists in a specific package of meat, doesn't mean that that package of meat is useless. most of the time, proper cooking of such meat will make that meat edible. most of all meats on the grocer's shelves, today, has some sort of biological organism in or on it. proper refrigeration until the time to cook it, will help negate the multiplication of the organism, keeping it under control, until its time for the meat to be prepared. with proper education, and a little common sense, americans can eat safely and wisely. upon learning of contaminations and recalls, persons should keep a level head, and a wise attitude. rumors and nonsense are useless when dealing with contaminated meat. proper procedure and educated thinking is necessary for a safe and timely resolution to these situations. it's not the end of the world. happy and safe fourth of july to all.... :)

My local Kroger is very clean, has really fresh produce and meats...never had a problem with either. The bad meat is not limited to Kroger nor is recalls in general. How many times have you turned on the the ole TV only to see yet another recall of some sort, from many different sources?

If people even knew the conditions meat was being raised and slaughtered in they would think twice about buying something called "ground beef trimmings." I am by no means a vegetarian but the meat I eat lived on a farm, ate grass its entire life and was not slaughtered in one of the many barely sanitary slaughterhouses in this country. Cows evolved to eat grass, their entire digestion system is made to eat grass not grain. Feeding cows grain promotes the growth of E.coli. Sure grass fed is significantly more but it is full of Omega 3s (like fish) and IMO a thousand times better tasting. You don't need to eat meat every single day, there are plenty of other options. Oh, and that lovely red coloring in store bought meat is due to it being treated with carbon-monoxide.

I wonder if they will take back my pot of chili sitting in my frig with Kroger beef in it????

I stopped buying Kroger meat because of that hideous red dye they put on it to make it look fresh. That shade of bright neon red is highly unnatural and can't be good for you. Blechh.
