HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio -- Issue 5 for funding Hamilton Co. Mr/DD programs for the next five years has passed with 100% the precincts reporting .
It is a renewal of 3.62 mils and an increase of 0.51 mil – a total of 4.13 mils that will raise the property tax for the owner of a $100,000 home by $15.00 to $104.46 a year.
The levy will generate $388.3 million over its lifetime, providing 73 percent of the funding needed for programs of the Hamilton County Board of Mentally Retarded/Developmentally Disabled.
The remaining money comes from state and federal sources.
The agency serves nearly 8,000 children and adults plus 530 residential clients in Children’s, Adults and Residential Services. In addition, MR/DD contracts with more than 300 community agencies. Programs include two special schools, four satellite classrooms and four adult centers.
It’s estimated that when the new levy expires, the need for services will be even greater. Officials believe they’ll see 3,000 more requests for help because of higher autism rates, longer life spans and better medical technology.
