Locklamd Police Officer Brandon Gehring was trying to deploy stop sticks when he was struck by a cruiser in pursuit of the suspect.

The Lockland Police Department says Officer Brandon Gehring is off a ventilator and breathing on his own again.

Gehring was critically injured during a police chase on I-75 last week when another cruiser hit him as he put down stop sticks.

Health complications forced him back on a ventilator earlier this week.

There was a blood drive today at the Lockland Safety Services Center in Gehring's honor.

The Lockland Police are selling T-shirts to raise money for Gehring and there will be another fundraiser on Sunday, May from noon - 4 p.m. at the Wyoming Village Green.
