A West Chester officer critically injured in a crash this week spent his birthday in a hospital bed Friday.

Officer Nicholas Gattermeyer was responding to a burglary when he lost control of his cruiser and hit a tree early Tuesday morning.

Today is Officer Gattermeyer's 25th birthday.

He remains in critical condition at University Hospital.
