A former University of Cincinnati Bearcats basketball player is facing charges after sheriff's deputies intercepted 11 pounds of marijuana.
Deputies took 39-year-old Corie Blount into custody on Thursday.
The Butler County Sheriff's Office says the marijuana came from out of state and was scheduled to be delivered by the United States Postal Service to an address in Liberty Township.
The sheriff's office says Blount arrived at a Liberty Township residence to retrieve the package.
Authorities then followed Blount to his residence where he was arrested.
Search warrants were executed at Blount's residence where a second package was discovered, similar to the one he picked up earlier.
Authorities say that package contained around 11 pounds of marijuana and a third package located contained approximately seven pounds of marijuana.
Authorities confiscated 29 pounds of marijuana, $29,500 in cash, a 1996 Mercedes Benz, a 2004 Cadillac Escalade, a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban, and three guns.
Blount was taken to the Butler County Correctional Complex and released after posting a $10,090.00 bond.
Blount helped lead the Bearcats to the 1992 Final Four. He was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1993 and played for several teams before finishing his pro career with the Toronto Raptors four seasons ago.
In 1999, when Blount played for the Los Angeles Lakers, he was pulled over for a minor traffic violation and police found $19,000 in cash in his car. Blount said the money came from the sale of a car and the buyer paid in cash. Fearing it had been used in a drug transaction, officers turned the money over to the Drug Enforcement Agency. Blount's attorneies later worked to get the money returned to him. No drug charges were ever filed in that incident.
