A 20-year-old Tri-state father is charged with severely beating his six-week-old infant son.

Christopher Stanfill's mother, who didn't want to be identified, tells 9News that both she and the infant's mother went grocery shopping, and left her grandson Zane with his father last Friday.

"He said he fell and the baby fell out of his hands," she recounted.

Stanfill's mother took the unresponsive child to St. Luke's West.

Little Zane would then be taken to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati.

As he left Erlanger, police were beginning their investigation.

"The detective did note that firsthand, that he observed bruising about the child's face and head," stated Rob Sanders, Kenton County's Commonwealth attorney.

"We believe the child is also suffering from internal head injuries bleeding on the brain things like that," said Sanders.

On Wednesday Erlanger police were trying to find Chris Stanfill but say they were running into roadblocks.

They released Stanfill's photo to the media and shortly after he turned himself in.

Police say Stanfill was actually visiting the child in the hospital when his family saw his picture on television.

"I hate what has happened," says Stanfill's mother. "Whether it's accidental or on purpose, that's for the courts to decide. No matter what I love my son."

When asked if the allegations are proved true, she replied, "He's still my son. I will still love him, but he will have to do his time. He will have to pay his price."
