The family of a Falmouth teen killed this Thursday in a school bus crash is suing the trucking company involved in the accident.
Sixteen-year-old Daniel Wood died after the bus he was riding in and a dump truck loaded with gravel collided Thursday morning on KY 22 at Ballinger Road between Falmouth and Williamstown.
Phil Taliaferro, of Covington, is the attorney representing the teen’s family in the lawsuit filed against XXL Trucking, LLC.
Daniel’s 12-year-old brother Travis and five-year-old sister Jordan were also among the 11 children on the Pendleton County school bus when the accident occurred.
Travis was trying to help other students and his older brother get off the bus, but Daniel died at the scene.
All of the children were taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Grant County for treatment of minor injuries.
Police say the westbound dump truck crossed the double-yellow line, hitting the side and back of the eastbound school bus.
On Friday an accident reconstruction team returned to the scene for more investigation.
Taliaferro filed a lawsuit to secure the XXL Trucking's records.
Taliaferro said he wants to make sure all records pertaining to the driver, Francisco Yulfo, are preserved.
The funeral for Daniel Wood will be held this Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home in Falmouth.
The visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and the funeral will follow at 3 p.m.
A memorial fund has been set up at Fifth Third Bank.
