Fallen Soldier Returns Home Today

The remains of Spec. Gregory Missman, the Clermont County soldier killed in Afghanistan earlier this month, are scheduled to arrive in the Tri-State on Wednesday.

Missman, 36, was killed when his convoy was ambushed by insurgents on July 8.

His family says he re-enlisted in the Army to support his 4-year-old son. He was deployed in June.

Missman, who was from Pierce Township and graduated from Amelia High School in 1993, entered the Army's Warrior Transition Program. He served in Afghanistan with the 4th Infantry Division.

His remains are scheduled to arrive at Lunken Airport shortly before 6 p.m.

Around 6:30 p.m., the procession to the Nurre Funeral Home in Amelia will be as follows:

  • from Lunken Airport, to SR 32 East
  • turn right on Old SR 74 in front of the American Legion Post 72 in Mt. Carmel
  • right onto Mt. Carmel-Tabasco Road
  • left on Clough Pike, where the processional will pass Amelia High School
  • from Clough Pike turn right onto Amelia Olive Branch Road
  • left on SR 125 (W. Main Street) in Amelia
  • The Nurre Funeral Home is located at 177 W. Main Street in Amelia.

A public visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday at the Union Township Civic Center, at 4350 Aicholtz Road.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Moriah Methodist Church in Union Township, with burial at Mount Moriah Cemetery.
