As the switch to "digital" fast approaches, you're invited to hear about it from the top man in charge of regulating our nation's broadcast industry.

February 17th is the big day TV stations must shut off their analog signals and broadcast only digital signals, a move mandated by Congress to free up the analog spectrum for use by emergency fire and police responders.

This means if your TV requires an antenna or "rabbit ears" to get a signal, you'll have to 1)  purchase a digital converter box, 2) purchase a new digital TV set, or 3) subscribe to a cable, telephone, or satellite TV service.

According to the Ohio Association of Broadcasters, the Cincinnati area has one of the highest percentages of homes with over-the-air analog television signals in the country, which is why local television stations have been airing thousands of commercials advising viewers of how to prepare for the transition to digital television.

The Chairman of the Federal Communications Commision, Kevin Martin, is visiting Cincinnati Tuesday, January 6th to address the change and take questions.  He will speak at 9:30 a.m. at the Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency at 1740 Langdon Farm Road in the Jordon's Crossing Shopping Center in Bond Hill.  The meeting will take place in the Gwen L. Robinson Conference Hall and is open to the public.  Convenient, free parking is available.

Chairman Martin's presentation is sponsored by WCPO-TV and the other Cincinnati television stations, in cooperation with the Ohio Association of Broadcasters.
