It's estimated that one in four women nationwide will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.
To increase awareness, an event was held on Fountain Square Wednesday called "Silent No More." October is domestic violence awareness month.
Organizers from the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati and Women Helping Women gave out information about resources available for victims and their families.
Local artists also featured art work to show the emotional reality of violence.
"The goal is to get people thinking about DV and not just an abstract thing or something unfortunate they see on the news but as something that effects us all," said Stacey Hall with YWCA of Greater Cincinnati.
Purple ribbons were also featured to show solidarity for victims.
