ROSELAWN, Ohio -- Cincinnati Police are investigating after an elderly woman in her nineties was fatally stabbed in the 1500 block of Summit Road in Roselawn Tuesday night.

Ida Martin was 93-years-old. Family say she had just celebrated her birthday in August. She was transported to University Hospital, but did not survive.

Her grandson says she had been out in front of her apartment building at the Summit Apartments "Active Adults" complex where she had lived for 30 years and was about to take a walk. That's when witnesses say someone approached her and stabbed her four times.

Police say it happened just after 6 p.m. She died two hours later.

Police describe the suspect as a black male in dark clothing who pulled a white bandana over his face as he made his approach.

Her family says she had finally recovered enough to walk by herself again after months of rehab after neck surgery earlier this year. They say she did not want to be a burden to her family and still had a sharp mind and quick wit.

They also express that their beloved family member who survived the Great Depression did not deserve to be a victim of this "senseless attack."

Police are not saying whether the stabbing occurred during a robbery attempt, but the case has been turned over to homicide investigators.
