Democratic State Lawmaker Won't Run Against Schmidt

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A Democratic state lawmaker has withdrawn his bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt.
State Rep. Todd Book told the Portsmouth Daily Times in an interview published Tuesday that it is "just not the right time" for him to run for Congress.
Book said he had been "stewing" over the decision for some time.
He said he has much to do in Columbus, as the newly selected point person in the Ohio House on bioscience and casino issues.
Book, who is term-limited next year, also noted that the state budget has not yet been balanced.
Book's withdrawal from the congressional race leaves Cincinnatian David Krikorian as the front-runner for the Democratic nomination to take on Schmidt.
