Delta, Northwest Could Announce Merger Tuesday

Delta and Northwest Airlines are poised to combine to be the world's largest airline.

Officials say the merger could be announced as early as Tuesday if both boards give the go-ahead to complete the deal.

Sources close to the situation say there is no guarantee that the merger will go through.  They cite pilot contract matters as a possible problem in the deal.

The unions are still at odds over seniority issues. The main sticking point is whether Delta pilots are willing to make changes to their contract to give Delta more flexibility after the merger.

Delta operates its second-largest hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
