October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the U.S. and a series of observances kicked off Friday with a Day of Peace ceremony in Covington.
Speakers included Congressman Geoff Davis and Fran Morris Mandell, Director of Development for the College of Social Work at the University of Kentucky.
The goal is to promote peacemaking and reduce violence in families as well as in neighborhoods and schools.
The idea is that domestic violence is a community problem and requires a community response.
Friday's event at the Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center was sponsored by the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission.
