There are only about two dozen veterans living from the group who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.
Eighteen of those veterans held a D-Day memorial service in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky Saturday morning.
Crew members from the USS Achernar celebrated at their 27th annual reunion. The USS Achernar landed at Omaha Beach on that fateful day during the way. It also invaded southern France later in the summer of 1944, and went to fight in the Pacific theater, overtaking Okinawa on Easter 1945.
The group is spending the weekend at the Drawbridge Inn where they are sharing stories and honoring those who lost their lives in World War Two. They will also sail the Belle of CIncinnati on the Ohio River.
