Tri-State traffic is off to a slow start Wednesday morning after serious crashes completely closed major interstates on both sides of the river.
As you head out the door for your morning commute from northern Kentucky, you may want to avoid the Cut-in-the-Hill for a while.
That is where a tractor trailer rolled over around 3 a.m., blocking I-71/75 northbound. Police say the Budweiser truck may have rolled over more than once when the driver lost control. There is no word yet on the driver's injuries, but an ambulance was called to the scene.
Even though the truck is off on the right shoulder, officials were forced to close down all northbound lanes at one point. Currently, only the left lane and shoulder are open while they work to clear up the mess.
As of 5 a.m., well before the formal start of the morning rush hour, traffic is already backed up past the Kyles Lane overpass in Fort Wright.
Artimis estimates the accident could take three hours to clean up, which would cause some serious problems as we move into full rush hour.
Those traveling into Downtown from north of the city face similar issues as they make their way south on Interstate 75 through the West End, where a four vehicle accident has closed down all lanes of traffic at Ezzard Charles.
According to Artimis, the interstate is temporarily closed south of the Western Avenue exit, where all traffic is being forced to exit. Also, the left shoulder of the northbound side is blocked, due to emergency vehicles.
The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. and officials say it may take about two hours to clear up. It appears a semi involved split in half and lost its load.
There is no word yet on injuries from this crash.
The causes of the crashes have not been released, but the overnight rainfall may have contributed to making the roadways slick and slippery.
Meteorologist Larry Handley says to expect off-and-on showers to accompany cooler weather throughout the day.
